
Collection Services
The City of Glendale and its franchise haulers provide weekly collection services for single-family homes, multi-family properties, and businesses. This includes residents, tenants, and property owners and managers citywide.
Use the guide below to learn what goes in each cart, how to schedule bulky item pickup, what to do about missed collections, and where to properly dispose of hazardous materials.

How to Sort Your Waste
Help us reduce methane by recycling your food scraps, soiled paper, and yard waste.
NOTE: Put your food scraps in a clear bag before tossing them into your green bin.
Tip: Reuse clear bread or produce bags for food scraps.
Glendale residents can pick up a FREE Organics Recycling Pail.


ACCEPTED ITEMS
Food Scraps
- Fruits & vegetables
- Bread, grains, pasta, rice, beans
- Meat, poultry, fish, and soft-shell seafood
- Cheese, pastries, dairy
- Coffee grounds & filters
Food-Soiled Paper
- Paper napkins, towels, paper bags (food-soiled only)
Yard Waste
- Leaves, grass, branches, flowers, trimmings.
Other
- Pet litter (kept in its own bag)

DO NOT INCLUDE
- Bathroom tissue, facial tissue, or wipes
- Compostable cups/utensils
- Flower pots
- Hard-shell seafood (clams, mussels, oysters)
- Human or animal waste
- Produce stickers
- Tea bags or wrappers
Use your blue cart for clean, dry paper, cardboard, bottles, cans, and plastic containers that can be recycled into new materials.
Note: To recycle major appliances (including refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, dishwashers, trash compactors, A/C Units, microwaves, and more), schedule a free Bulky Item Pickup or click here for more information.
Glendale residents can pick up TWO FREE Recycling Tote Bags.


ACCEPTED ITEMS
- Paper, newspaper, and flattened cardboard
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic bottles and containers (#1–#5)
- Aluminum & steel cans and clean foil

DO NOT INCLUDE
- Plastic bags, film plastic, straws, or utensils
- Food, liquids, or dirty items
- Styrofoam
- Clothing, toys, or hoses
- Paint and other hazardous items
Use your black cart for items that cannot be recycled or composted, including plastic bags, Styrofoam, and contaminated materials.
TIP: If you’re unsure, toss it in the trash to avoid contamination.

- Diapers & pet waste
- Broken glass (securely wrapped)
- Contaminated or food-soiled items that cannot be composted

Bulky Item Pickup
Residential Homes (1-4 Units): Residents in single-family homes and small apartment or condo complexes (1-4 units) can schedule a bulky item pickup directly through the City of Glendale by clicking the ‘REQUEST BULKY ITEM PICKUP’ button below.
Apartments & Condos (5+ Units) and Businesses: Larger apartment or condo complexes (5+ units) and businesses are serviced by the City’s designated franchise haulers. Tenants in these buildings must contact their property manager or their designated hauler to arrange for a bulky item pickup.

HOW TO SCHEDULE
Submit a Bulky Item Request (at least 3 business days prior to scheduled pickup service) or schedule through the Recycle Coach app.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Items must be placed at the curbside after 6:00 p.m.the evening before collection.
- Wrap all items containing glass (e.g., mirrors, cabinet doors) or they will not be picked up.
- Propane tanks (from BBQs and patio heaters) are NOT accepted.
- Illegal dumping is strictly prohibited, and violators will be subject to fines and legal action. Please report dumping through the MyGlendale app.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL
Hazardous materials cannot be placed in any curbside cart.
Disposal is available at the City of Glendale Household Hazardous Waste Facility, managed by the Glendale Fire Department.

ELECTRONIC WASTE (E-WASTE) DISPOSAL
Electronic waste cannot be placed in any curbside cart.
E-waste can be dropped off at the Glendale Recycling Center.
